BARANGAY CARMEN

BARANGAY CARMEN PROFILE

Brief History of Barangay Carmen

Barangay Carmen is the biggest of the four población barangays in Loreto. Barangay Carmen has six sitios or puroks namely: Malinawon, Malipayon, Mauswagon, Makugihon, Boyo and Busay. Four of these are located in the barangay proper while the rest are located at a considerable distance away from the heart of the barangay. Barangay Carmen is bounded on the north by the sea; on the south by the river; on the east by Barangay Sta. Cruz; and on the west by Barangay San Juan.

Carmen is located at the center of the Municipality of Loreto. It is accessible by passenger motorcycle from the población or through the passenger jeepney bound for the adjacent Municipality of Tubajon.

The barangay is classified as a mineral reservation area. Its total land area is estimated to be 2,198 hectares. However, this has yet to be determined with finality owing to the absence of a perimeter survey. Carmen is 15% mountainous, 20% hilly and 10% coastal plain. It has an average temperature of 80.4 degrees Fahrenheit with a range of 78 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit in May.

Barangay Carmen has a population of 2,020 (for updating), which is the biggest population of all the barangays in the municipality. The barangay has a number of amenities. Its infrastructures include a complete elementary school; private and public high school; a hospital; a privately-owned port; level-three water system; and electricity that serves almost 100% of the total households.
